The food: Steam Shrimp Dumpling with Vegetable Seedling
Where to find it: One Dim Sum, Hong Kong
-:-
A waitress lifts the lid to the wooden basket that houses the dim sum and a plume of steam puffs up. It’s almost like a smoke signal communicating the arrival of good things to come.
Hong Kongers live by their dim sum. As per their British heritage, they demand small bites that compliment their morning and afternoon tea. Therefore, it is almost viewed as a human right to have easy and inexpensive access to quality tea and dim sum.
One Dim Sum exemplifies this philosophy. Being a Michelin-starred dim sum joint, this place owns the seal of quality. But when you’re only paying about $15 HKD (or $2 USD) per serving of dim sum, then you know every citizen of Hong Kong can secure their Hong Kong culinary rights.
Let’s hope it’ll only be a matter of time before the rest of the world follows Hong Kong’s philosophy for quality and inexpensive foods.
