#FoodFriday: The Progress of Pizza

The food: Quail Egg, White Rose Potato & Guanciale Pizza

Where to find it: Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, North Beach Neighborhood, San Francisco, California

-:-

With its startups and tech companies, many could consider San Francisco the most innovative city in the world. Its pizza beefs up that reputation.

Tony’s Pizza Napoletana catapults the city when it comes to international progress of food and pizza. Back in 2007 in Naples, Italy at the World Pizza Cup, Tony Gemignani of Tony’s Pizza became the first American to ever win a baking championship. He swiped the gold cup for then best Neapolitan pizza in the world. This made Tony a 9-Time World Champion. Just like when California’s Napa Valley snagged the title for world’s best wine from France, Tony’s American win infuriated the Italians. Friendships broke, and it was like a Godfather-style war of the pizza families.

Tempers have cooled since then, but the pizza ovens still blaze. Here’s Tony’s curiously juicy and fun Quail Egg, White Rose Potato & Guanciale Pizza. If a pizza’s got quail’s eggs on it, then you know that’s SF-style, innovative thinking and eats.

So get innovative with your meal this #FoodFriday. We’re about to enter Spring, and it’s time for change.
