Few experiences in life move this traveler’s soul more than the G-Force sensation I feel when taking off in an airplane. The plane engines blast on the runway like some epic symphony warming up to blast down the concert halls with canons, pomp and (boisterousness under every) circumstance. The airliner accelerates moving the craft and your body farther while your mind attempts to keep pace. Soon the nose gear rotates for the perfect takeoff pitch. The airplane picks up off the ground. And there, we have liftoff. My favorite sensation—that roller-coaster like tug at your belly and innards. The feeling that defies gravity. It’s almost like giving mother nature the finger and she rewards your snarky behavior with a gut-wrenching feeling.
That belly-pulling sensation primes every traveler for hunger, and despite the bad rep airplane food gets, I truly appreciate the well-crafted in-flight meal. Yes, most of the time you’ll get your shrink-wrapped ham & cheese sandwich. But on those rare occasions you’ll get something delightful. Something like Malaysian Airline’s Indian food like you see here. As the airlines transports your body to another world, your belly takes a vacation, as well.
So, this #FoodFriday, appreciate the good food you have in the most unexpected culinary destinations—even if it’s a mile above sea level.
